Year 6
Wednesday 14th October 2026 - Physical Education: Cricket
After welcoming Coach Aftab from Lancashire Cricket Club to our school six weeks ago, today we have to say a fond farewell as our 6-week cricket programme has sadly come to an end. During these sessions, the children have learnt valuable catching, bowling and fielding skills, as well as embedding our core values of respect, love, grow and forgiveness. Thank you, Coach Aftab!
Tuesday 13th October 2026 - CAFOD Workshop
Today, Mr Flannery from CAFOD delivered an assembly to our whole school, explaining how the charity helps people overseas. He also highlighted the principles of Catholic Social Teaching that link to charitable work, such as subsidiarity, human dignity, solidarity and participation.
After the assembly, Mr Flannery provided a workshop for the children in Year 6. He explained the problems facing El Salvador, and asked the children to be project managers, making decisions about which projects they would provide for the country with a £15,000 budget. After making their decision, the children had to explain their reasoning behind their choices. This workshop also helped the children's understanding of St Francis' message in Laudato Si'– we all have a responsibility to care for our common home and our neighbours.
Friday 9th October 2026 - Presentation on e-cigarettes and vaping.
Today, we welcomed into class the Healthy Schools Team who presented information on the effects and legalities of e-cigarettes and vaping. The session was extremely valuable and will help the children to make good, informed choices as they get older and transition to secondary school.
Tuesday 6th October: World Migratory Bird Day
Our Laudato Si' theme this month is World Migratory Bird Day, which takes place on Saturday 10th October. To celebrate this special day, bird feeders have been placed in some of the trees around our school grounds. During assembly, our Eco Team shared important information and ideas with the rest of the school about how to help and protect migratory birds, including creating your own bird feeders at home or putting up bird houses to give birds a safe place to nest. The fruit from our school orchard certainly provides plenty of nutrition for the visiting geese each year!
Friday 2nd October 2026
This morning, Year 6 presented a special assembly to the school to celebrate Black History Month. The assembly was attended by pupils, staff, parents and families. The children shared their learning about the achievements, contributions and experiences of inspiring Black people throughout history. They also highlighted the importance of equality, diversity, respect and celebrating the different cultures within our community. The children worked hard to prepare for the assembly and were proud to share their knowledge with the school and their families.
Tuesday 29th September - Science: To explore which surface reflects the most light.
Tuesday 22nd September: World Rivers Day
Today, our Eco Team presented this month's Laudato Si' theme to the rest of the school, providing lots of ideas about how to take part in World Rivers Day (Sunday 27th September). This helped to promote the importance of our rivers and encourage active participation in looking after our waterways.
Monday 7th September 2026 - Science: To understand that light travels in straight lines.
Today, Year 6 used mirrors to explore how light reflects off smooth, shiny surfaces in straight lines. They modelled this by using a torch as the light source and a piece of white ribbon to represent light. Then they drew scientific diagrams to demonstrate what they had learned.
