Year 2
Tuesday 8th July - After leaving our vegetables to grow for a good few months, they were finally ready to be picked today and we were amazed with the results. Logan, our expert Year 2 gardener, showed us how to pick them out of the soil correctly. He is very knowledgeable in this field because his dad grows a variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs at his local allotment. We can't wait to boil and eat ours tomorrow!
The children in Year 2 learned all about capital cities. What makes a city a capital city and the purpose of a capital city. They looked at the population size of each UK capital city and built towers of cubes to highlight this data. They looked at reasons why there are more people living in a capital city. The children worked in small groups and asked simple questions (Geographical enquiry) They used globes, atlases, non- fiction books and the internet as sources of information to: • Locate where in the world we are. • Locate each country in the UK and their capital cities.
Today, we had a fantastic visit from a music specialist from Trafford Music Service. The children had the chance to explore various instruments, including Ganza Brazilian rattles, Agogo African bells, Snare drums and a large Surdo drum. They absolutely loved playing these instruments. During the session, the children learned about pitch and practiced following rhythms using both body parts and percussion instruments. It was a fun and engaging experience that sparked their creativity and enthusiasm for music.
After planning and buying ingredients for a healthy wrap, we had a very exciting Food Technology afternoon where the Year 2 children made and enjoyed eating some delicious wraps. The children tried hard to choose healthy ingredients from each of the 5 food groups. They then prepared the food by cutting, tearing, spreading and grating it with their partners. The children rolled their fillings up very carefully, tucked the sides in and then enjoyed eating them outside in the sunshine.
Friday 21st March - Year 2 welcomed their families in today to watch their class assembly.
This week, we have been learning about the importance of hygiene in Year 2 so we decided to carry out an investigation during Science Week. We did the ‘Soap and Pepper Test’. The children made a prediction and then carried out the investigation.
