Tuesday 13th October 2026 - CAFOD Assembly
Our whole school came together for a special assembly led by a representative from CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development). We learnt about the important work CAFOD does to support communities around the world who are facing poverty, injustice and hardship. The assembly highlighted how CAFOD’s work reflects Catholic Social Teaching, particularly our call to uphold human dignity, show solidarity with others and work towards a fairer world for everyone.
A key focus of the assembly was the importance of providing clean, safe water for children in other countries who are not as fortunate as we are. We were reminded that something many of us take for granted, such as turning on a tap to get clean water, can be a daily struggle for others. This linked beautifully to Jesus’ words in the Bible: “I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink” (Matthew 25:35), reminding us of our responsibility to care for those in need.
Inspired by the assembly, we hope to raise money for CAFOD in the coming months to support its vital work and help provide access to clean water for children and families around the world. Together, we can put our faith into action and make a real difference to the lives of others.

St Francis of Assisi Prayer Trail
In preparation for the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi celebrated on the 4th October, our school prayed a special nine-day Novena asking St Francis of Assisi to pray for us and our world, based on his beautiful Canticle of the Sun. These reflections of penitence and praise inspire us to care for the earth and our most vulnerable brothers and sisters.
On Friday 2nd October, the Novena culminated in a prayer trail with teachers leading a special focus on St Francis in each class. The Pals of St Al’s- our Pupil Apostle Leaders, then delivered the prayer trail to parents. This prayer and reflection was a wonderful way to mark this very poignant Jubilee 800th Anniversary year of St Francis of Assisi.

This morning, the Mini Vinnies led the school and parents in a wonderful Mission Statement and Core Values Assembly.
They reflected on how Christ is central to everything we do and what our Mission Statement (our school prayer) and core values of love, forgiveness, grow and respect mean to us.
They carefully thought about every line of our school prayer and how it reflects and speaks to us and linked this to some of our favourite Sacred Scripture.
Our Mission statement reflects how we live out the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and British Values and the virtues we have for each other. For example: compassion, kindness and joyfulness as we are all made in the image and likeness of God.
Thank you, Mini Vinnies, for sharing how our Mission Statement and Core Values are central to our prayer life here at St Alphonsus.

Today, all the children from our school attended Mass at St Alphonsus Church. It was a lovely opportunity for the whole school community to come together in prayer, reflection, and celebration. The children participated respectfully and enjoyed being part of this special occasion.
