Year 4
Wednesday 31st March 2026 Stations of the Cross
Year 4 worked with Year 3 to create a tableau of each Station of the Cross. After visiting our parish church to reflect on the Stations, they worked in small groups to depict the image. The Pals of St Al's and Mini Vinnies from Year 5 read the information aloud to the other classes in the school who came to visit and reflect on Jesus' journey before his crucifixion. Every class came to the hall to walk around each station and listen to the information. They then took time to reflect and say a short prayer. After the classes and teachers had visited, parents were invited too. Some of the comments the parents said were: "I love coming to this every year," (Demetrius' mum). "It is a very emotional experience," (Halle, Darren and Nell's mum).
Friday 27th March 2026 Visit from the Fire Service
We had three firefighters visit our class. They told us all about their jobs and demonstrated the "silly walk" they must do when they enter a building because the smoke makes it extremely dark, so they need to map out the building. They showed us the protective clothing and apparatus they must wear. It weighs 4 stone! Tamara got to try some of it on. It was a very informative session and some of the children said it has inspired them to become fire fighters when they are older.
Each week we have been doing a Lenten environmental challenge. This week, the focus is on energy. The electricity, gas and fuel oil we use in our homes and school come mostly from fossil fuels. For most of us, there is no realistic alternative, but we can be responsible for our consumption of energy and adapt our lifestyles to reduce our use of fossil fuels.
Giving Our Hearts 23rd March 2026
The heart symbolises love, care and reaching out to others. Giving our hearts is about listening, helping and being kind. Everyone sat with a classmate and had a short conversation. After their chat, they filled in and decorated a heart to show what the other person had shared. They then presented the heart to the other person. Our actions today showed noticing, listening, sharing, including and loving others with all our hearts.
The Liturgy of the Eucharist 19th March 2026
Year 3 and 4 worked together to link the words and actions of The Feeding of the 5000, The Last Supper and The Liturgy of the Eucharist. They looked at the four point structure of the Mass and focused on the words and actions during The Liturgy of the Eucharist. They sequenced the events and recorded a synopsis of what happens at each point during this part of the Mass.

What a beautiful, sunny day! Perfect for Year 4 to participate in their weekly sports lesson with Mr Taylor from Manchester United Foundation. The lesson began with skills development followed by mini-games. Everyone had a fun morning! Rashaun and Tamara were chosen as Stars of the Day. Well done to both of them.

The children who are learning to play the clarinet through the Furthering Talent programme were invited to spend the day at the RNCM. They met with other schools and performed as a 75 piece orchestra.

Mental Health Week
All children attended an assembly to find out about Children's Mental Health Week and participated in class activities.
Friday 23rd January - This morning, the Year 4 children performed their class assembly to the whole school and their families. The told the story of the Conversion of Saul to Paul through acting, singing and narrating. The children were fantastic!
Travelling Nativity
The tradition of having figures of Mary, Joseph and a donkey travelling from home to home during Advent originated in Mexico where it is known as posada.
We read Luke 2:1-14
Christingle means Christ's Light. The lit candle represents Jesus as the light of the world. The Orange represents the world. The red ribbon represents the blood of Jesus. The fruits or sweets skewered on the sticks represent the fruits of the earth. The four sticks represent the compass directions and the four seasons.
During Advent, we were learning about Joseph and how he received a sign in his dream to keep his family safe. We made our own Sleeping Josephs to take home to share with our families so we could put special prayers underneath them.
To raise money for CAFOD, we had a Christmas jumper day!
In Year 4, we created our own Advent calendar with a prayer and image for each day of Advent to remind us that it is a time of preparation and reflection.
