Year 4

Each week we have been doing a Lenten environmental challenge.  This week, the focus is on energy.  The electricity, gas and fuel oil we use in our homes and school come mostly from fossil fuels.  For most of us, there is no realistic alternative, but we can be responsible for our consumption of energy and adapt our lifestyles to reduce our use of fossil fuels.

Giving Our Hearts 23rd March 2026

The heart symbolises love, care and reaching out to others.  Giving our hearts is about listening, helping and being kind. Everyone sat with a classmate and had a short conversation.  After their chat, they filled in and decorated a heart to show what the other person had shared.  They then presented the heart to the other person.  Our actions today showed noticing, listening, sharing, including and loving others with all our hearts.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist 19th March 2026

Year 3 and 4 worked together to link the words and actions of The Feeding of the 5000, The Last Supper and The Liturgy of the Eucharist.  They looked at the four point structure of the Mass and focused on the words and actions during The Liturgy of the Eucharist.  They sequenced the events and recorded a synopsis of what happens at each point during this part of the Mass.

 Travelling Nativity

The tradition of having figures of Mary, Joseph and a donkey travelling from home to home during Advent originated in Mexico where it is known as posada.

We read Luke 2:1-14

Christingle means Christ's Light.  The lit candle represents Jesus as the light of the world.  The Orange represents the world.  The red ribbon represents the blood of Jesus.  The fruits or sweets skewered on the sticks represent the fruits of the earth.  The four sticks represent the compass directions and the four seasons.

During Advent, we were learning about Joseph and how he received a sign in his dream to keep his family safe.  We made our own Sleeping Josephs to take home to share with our families so we could put special prayers underneath them.

To raise money for CAFOD, we had a Christmas jumper day!

In Year 4, we created our own Advent calendar with a prayer and image for each day of Advent to remind us that it is a time of preparation and reflection.

Year 4 Coffee Morning. Parents and family members invited to join the children doing activities linked to Anti-Bullying Week to highlight the importance of how we consider other people. It is also a time for everyone to reflect on loved ones who have passed away and celebrate memories of them.

As part of our Prophecy and Promise Religion topic, we visited our Parish Church to share in the Liturgy and after, we looked at the special objects in church and those used in Mass.

Year 4 created Memory Matchboxes to remember loved ones who had passed away. They decorated them with their loved one's favourite colours and things. They included a special message for their loved one to keep inside the memory box.

Year 4 made Ofrendas at home.

Thursday 9th October - To celebrate the Season of Creation and Covenant, Year 4 visited RHS Bridgewater Garden Centre. The day began with exploration of our world and how Our Common Home needs help to repair itself because of climate change. The children participated in a practical activity, identifying features they could add to their gardens to help improve the Earth. They worked together in teams to design a garden with all the features to help to heal our planet and then made a model, with their team with Lego, of the garden. After lunch, they spent the afternoon exploring the beautiful gardens, taking time to say prayers of thanks to God for the wonderful world he has given us. There was also time set aside for meditation, appreciating our surroundings and God's Creation.
