Design Technology March 2026
Digital world: Wearable Technology
We have learnt to evaluate and program wearable technology. Using the software program MakeCode, we wrote code to control functions on a device and initiate a flashing LED panel and a pattern, on both the virtual and physical Micro:bit. We programmed the buttons to carry out a specific action when pressed and could identify errors within our codes by comparing them to a correct example, enabling us to find and resolve the errors.
The Liturgy of the Eucharist 19th March 2026
Year 3 and 4 worked together to link the words and actions of The Feeding of the 5000, The Last Supper and The Liturgy of The Eucharist. They revisited the four-part structure of the Mass and focused on the words and actions during The Liturgy of the Eucharist. In groups, they discussed and sequenced these events and recorded their understanding of what happens at each point during this part of the Mass. Children reinforced their knowledge of religious vocabulary and demonstrated their ability to apply this in their explanations.
French lessons
Bonjour! Year 3 are actively developing their fluency in French by learning to greet each other; asking each other questions about where they live and their age; learning to count and singing songs about the days of the week. Merci Madame Laura! C’est excellent!
World Book Day 5th March 2026
This year, we thoroughly enjoyed an amazing celebration of World Book Day by wearing comfortable clothes to relax with our favourite book; visiting our fabulous school library; recommending great reads to our peers and creating a Book in a Box of our current class text: Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura. Have a look!
Year 3 and Year 4 joined together to discuss the special objects and symbols of Advent and Christmas, explaining their meaning and why they are significant.
Year 3 enjoyed their class Field trip exploring the local area to identify human geographical and physical geographical features of the landscape and to identify if they live in a more urban or rural area. As part of our Jubilee pledge to continue to care for our Common Home, we took the opportunity to carry out a litter pick and took time to sit and pray in the Seymour Community Garden.
Our parents and families enjoyed uniting together celebrating our school family. They also signed our Remembrance book to remember loved ones during the month of November.
As part of our Prophecy and Promise Religion topic, we visited our Parish Church to share in the Liturgy and after, we looked at the special objects in church and those used in Mass.
During the half term, the children completed a project of sharing special memories of loved ones who have died to make 'Ofrendas' in order to remember them by. In school, they wrote special 'Amor Eterno ' prayers and decorated 'Calaveras Sugar Skulls' as part of our celebration of the Feasts of All Saints, All Souls and Day of The Dead.
Year 3 children experiencing what it is like to play wheelchair football in their MUFC lesson.
Children enjoying playing together as a reward for achieving 'Class of the Week.'
Celebration of The Word for Mission Sunday Week. The children reflected on the Gospel of Luke 18: 1-8 and remembered we are all called to share God's love with everyone. The Pope is asking us to be missionaries of hope. When we pray for each other, we share hope and our prayer can give us the strength and determination to help in practical ways too. We thought about how we can spread hope in places around the world where people are suffering because of war and hunger and how we can share God's love today with the people we meet at school and home. We made' hands of hope.'

Unpacking Scripture. We have unpacked Sacred Scripture: Psalm 8 to describe how a psalm studied praises creation and links to the Story of Creation- Genesis 1.
Curriculum RE: Creation and Covenant This half term in the season of Creation we have thought about the Story of Creation and how the earth is God's precious gift to everyone. We have reflected on Laudato Si, Pope Francis' letter to everyone on this planet to care for our common home – The Earth. As good Stewards of God's creation, we are working in partnership with a community project 'Abundance Manchester' to harvest and pick apples and pears from our St Alphonsus school orchard to make food and drink for the local community.
Welcome to all our Year 3 family, what a wonderful start to the new academic year! Celebration Of The Word Over the past few weeks children have enjoyed participating in and leading the class in our Celebration of The Word. We have reflected on special chosen pieces of Sacred Scripture linked to the Liturgical Calendar along with children's individual choices. We have reflected on how this Scripture speaks to us and how it can help us to go forth and live our faith each day.
