We celebrated
World Book Day
on Thursday 5th March 2026.
We had a fantastic day carrying out lots of activities linked to books.
Here are just a few of the innovative and fun ideas we enjoyed, making this World Book Day so special.
Reading in comfort:
We wore our own clothes to make sure we were really comfy so that we could curl up and relax with a favourite book, drink and biscuit.
Show and Tell:
We had a book-related show and tell session where we brought in our favourite books into school and shared why we loved them so much.
Book in a Box:
We designed and created the setting, animals and characters from our favourite class book called The Bog Baby and put them into a box.
These boxes and books were then shared and celebrated in our Good News assembly at the end of the week.
We absolutely loved making our Story in a Box: The Bog Baby by Jeanne Willis.

This week the children have been learning the poem
The Jumblies by Edward Lear,
linked to our topic on Explorers. In small groups they practised the poem together, adding their own actions and ideas to bring it to life.
They worked incredibly hard on their oracy skills, trying to use clear, confident voices, as well as expression and intonation to make their performances engaging.
We’re so proud of how enthusiastically they approached the challenge.
Their final performances are now available to watch on the school website.
Art and Design in Year 2: Painting and mixed media February 2026
First of all, the children looked at primary and secondary colours. They then mixed the primary colours to see what colours would be made.
Next, the children looked at texture-how objects felt. They ‘zoomed in’ on objects and descibed how they felt and these words were recorded on paper.
After that, the children painted parts of those objects by looking carefully at the colours and by choosing the best painting tool to use. For example: a fork, scrunched up tin foil, a cotton wool pad, the end of a a paintbrush or finger tips. The children homed in on the object and tried hard to show the texture of the objects using the paints they had mixed themselves.
After trying out these different techniques and textures, the children then paired up and together, and through discussion, chose an antarctic landscape. They worked really hard to make the sky, mountains, icebergs and water using a range of appropriate tools.
Finally, the children added more detail to their work by using pastels and felt tip pens. They made animals (penguins, seals) and igloos etc and stuck them onto their paintings to complete their pictures.
Robot algorithms in Year 2
We have had great fun this week learning all about algorithms.
Now we can program our robots to make them move in different directions and do particular tasks like scooping up a football and scoring a goal in the hoop.
We have learned how to follow a friend’s program and say what will happen and where the robot will end up. And we can also test a program and spot where it has gone wrong and debug it.
Friday 14th November - Year 2 welcomed their families in this morning to watch their class assembly. The children performed their assembly brilliantly, all about the Great Fire of London.
Year 2 have been working on a brilliant poem called Flicker. It is linked to our topic: The Great Fire of London.
�� The Year 2 children confidently recited the poem using expressive voices and clever actions, bringing the words to life with real flair.
�� They then worked collaboratively to find instruments that matched the theme and mood of each line—thinking carefully about how they sound.
�� Finally, they performed the piece beautifully, playing their chosen instruments at just the right moments and following their group’s graphic score carefully.

The children looked at Psalm 139:1-4 and discussed its meaning. They then listened to a song by Bernadette Farrell called ’O God, You Search Me’ which is based on this Psalm and created their own actions and responses to the words. Click here to see the video.
