Autumn II Week Three This week we were blessed with a visit from Deacon Pat. Before he arrived, we chose children to be parents, Godparents and Grandparents, in preparation for a Baptism. During his stay, we found out more about the symbols used and the words spoken by the priest and family members when this sacrament is celebrated. He finished the visit by giving us all a special blessing.
Autumn II Week Three Number bonds- Year One are such Smarties! Using the part-whole model and a box of Smarties, we made problems for our friends to solve so that we could show off our number bond skills.
Autumn 2 - Week Two. Michael Rosen Day and Year One are off on their own very own bear hunt. Unfortunately, while Old Bear and his friends were playing hide and seek some of their friends went missing... ... Year One to the rescue! Everyone found a bear. Year One have promised to choose a name for them, read to them each night and give them lots of cuddles.
Autumn 2 - Week One - Old Bear- Week One. A beautiful Story Sack appeared in our classroom. Using the clues, we made predictions about the story. We can’t wait to read it. Watch this space for further adventures...
Week Eight - Pumpkin fever... During week eight, the pumpkins arrived in Year One! We enjoyed sharing the story, ‘Granny Put a Pumpkin on Her Noggin’ and acted it out. We used pumpkin coloured pomp poms to help solve our number sentences. Also, our parents popped in to see our art work. We used oil pastels to create our own pumpkins. Year One demonstrated such wonderful blending of colours.
Phonics - Week Seven – Using our Fred Fingers, we have selected the sounds to spell out what is on the cards.
Team work makes the dream work- Week Six - Such splendid collaboration from the Year One children during our Maths lessons. Speedy subitising and Number lines- what a joy to see!
Open Afternoon – Week Six We enjoyed showing off our wonderful work and our beautiful classroom where the magic happens...
The Taste Test! The Year One children were up for the challenge to use their senses. They were encouraged to try different foods and describe the flavour.
More, Fewer, Same - Week 5 The children have enjoyed using concrete materials to learn mathematical vocabulary, including more, fewer and same. Thank you Meerab for counting the Gingerbread Men for us!
Symbols – Week 5 Year One have risen to the challenge of recognising and using mathematical symbols. We enjoyed using concrete materials to help us to read the number sentences – TRICKY!
Op Art –Week 5 Year 1 enjoyed an afternoon exploring lines. They drew on their knowledge of Bridget Riley’s Op Art pieces to produce eye boggling creations.
Story Time – Week 5 Shivay and Meerab enjoyed listening to the story of The Highway Rat.
Rumpelstiltskin - A strange little man arrived in the Year One classroom this week... Can you guess his name? We made predictions based on our knowledge of Traditional Stories.
One more than - We have enjoyed investigating number sentences using the vocabulary one more than.
Lights, Camera, Action - Are you sitting comfortably? We used ipads to film each other retelling the story of The Gingerbread Man.
Tasting our Gingerbread Men - YUMMY! We enjoyed tasting our Gingerbread men and describing the smell and taste. We have looked at the root ginger to help us understand how the Little Old Women made the gingerbread man.
Let’s write - We have been busy orally rehearsing sentences from our core text, focusing on using capital letters and full stops and spelling red words correctly.
Gingerbread Man – Hot Seating Mrs Fox enjoyed quizzing Miss. Roberts about how the Little Old Man behaved- she was a star! Look out for Meerab and Marsei showing off their acting skills.
Maths- Sorting Year One have enjoyed sorting natural objects and buttons. They have made decisions based on size, shape and colour.
