Year 4 have been constructing pavilions in D&T. They worked as part of a construction team to build their structures and put them together in the most structurally strong way they could find.

Our friends from our buddy school, Afifah Islamic School, visited Year 4. The children worked together to create posters for litter prevention. The workshop was call “Rubbish Art,” and was inspired by our local artist, Lynda Sterling.

Friday 24th January - The Year 4 children performed their class assembly this morning about St Paul. They were fantastic and performed and sang beautifully!

Some of our children who are part of the “Furthering Talent” programme and having clarinet lessons have been involved in music workshops focussing on the harp. They all had a chance to play a lap harp and some children had the opportunity to conduct the music changing the tempo and dynamics.

Year 4 have had the privilege of being invited to Ascension Church in Hulme to participate in 10 music workshops, facilitated by RNCM. The first session was such fun! The children practised keeping a steady beat and identifying crochets, quavers, minims and semibreves. They all got to play either a trombone or a trumpet. Thank-you to Fr Azariah and Mrs Chan for hosting the event and to the RNCM for funding the workshops. The children are really excited for the next event in four weeks. In the meantime, we’ll practise what we have learnt during our weekly music lessons.

Our current science topic in Year 4 is Animals including Humans. Through this, we have learnt about the digestive system and looked closely at teeth. We carried out a science investigation to find out the effect different liquids have on our teeth. We will make a number of observations and record our results and draw conclusions in our science books.

PE - Hockey Skills - Our PE lesson began with a fun warm-up called Banana Split. It got our bodies ready for the main part of the lesson. Today, we worked on improving and learning new skills in Hockey and followed that with some friendly competition work. When we discussed what we had learnt with Mr Beaumont (our PE coach), we identified the skills we had developed and how we had applied them when playing the game.

Science - The Digestive System - Our first science topic this year is animals including humans. We have been learning about the digestive system and how food enters our body through our mouth. As we will be learning about teeth, Mrs Delaney (a senior oral health improvement officer) visited Year 4 to discuss how we should look after our teeth. It was a practical session where we handled various models including cross section and decay models and x-rays. We compared amounts of sugar present in different carbonated drinks and talked about changes we could make to improve our oral health. It was a fun, interactive lesson and we all got our own toothbrush and full size toothpaste to take home at the end.

Year 4 spent a relaxing afternoon creating masterpieces with charcoal. We looked at a selection of objects and compared them, thinking about the proportion when we used an eraser to create the outline on a charcoal dust covered sheet. We then used charcoal pieces to shade, creating shadows and a 3D effect.
