At St Alphonsus RC Primary School, we put Christ at the centre of our teaching and learning. Our curriculum stems from our Mission Statement:
God lives in me. I am His witness.
I respect everybody, everybody respects me.
In our loving school, everyone is unique.
Just like the flowers in the field, as they
grow, we too grow in God’s love each day.
The life and teaching of Jesus and the values of the Gospel underpin all aspects of school life.
Why do we teach Design and Technology at St Alphonsus RC Primary School?
At St Alphonsus, we want our children to receive a high-quality Design and Technology education so that all pupils are confident in the fundamentals of Design and Technology, have the ability to evaluate existing products and their designs, and can apply their knowledge, skills and understanding to design and create their own products in a range of meaningful contexts. The curriculum for Design and Technology is carefully sequenced to build knowledge, skills, vocabulary and experiences that build on prior learning and enable pupils to make connections between ideas/their learning and the world around them. We also want pupils to have an appreciation of Design and Technology and aim to nurture a sense of fun and curiosity about the subject.
We want the children to see Design and Technology as being relevant to their world and applicable to everyday life as well as being something that develops through their school life and ultimately to the world of employment/and beyond. To that end, we aim to provide a high-quality, interrelated and creative experience which is one that develops the children’s ability to design and construct and one which allows them to apply the skills they have developed in a variety of ways.
